Analysis of Film traillor

We analysed a film trailler to help us identify the mise en scene of a movie, this will help us to start planning for when we create our own film and these analysis will give us an idea of what genre we are doing and what must be included to match the genre.

-The genre of 2012 is science fiction disaster. The main characteristics of a science fiction disaster movie is:
  • a specific time of event E.G 2012, the year that everyone thought that the wold was going to end.
  • Science and technology, people in these movies are are always ahead of the problem they have amazing technology which is ahead of our time and their scientific knowledge is always outstanding.
  • Extraterrestrial life forms, E.g aliens, SCI-FI disasters like to use ET life forms because they are a topic mainstream science likes to avoid.
SCI-FI disaster movies could also be classed as action movies are action packed and breath taking moments in them.

- Special Effects are extremely important in these types of movies because they need a hero in them who can perform terrifying escapes incredibly. They are also heavily relied upon because in some scenes theres can be meteor storms, earthquakes, aliens or tsunamis so film makers need effects to make these things happen. SFX basically make up the movie without the effects it wouldn't make sense.

-The sound track for these types of movies is really important because they give the movie life, they build up tension. They also highlight important events in the movie E.g if a earth quake is about to happen the characters slows down and it goes quiet and then the rumbling of the the earth and then the the trembling occurs which causes more sound to created because things are breaking and falling apart and the ground is cracking and then thats when the especial effects are brought in and utilised.

-The important of the mise en scene in a SCI-FI disaster film:
  • The setting: the setting is important because it makes the audience more included in the movie because the location of the event makes the audience nervous that that sort of event can happen to them.
  • Props: the props are heavily relied upon because they add normality and a sense of realness to the movie E.g cars and houses and they are always used in disaster sci-fi movies to create panic in the audience and to kind of give an insight to what  can happen during these events.
  • Costumes: the costumes also add a sense of realness to the movie because it implies that the characters are just normal people who are facing these situations which makes the audience have a lot of sympathy and emotion towards the characters. If an ET is in the movie their costume is important because its supposed to look realistic to draw in the audience and make them believe that its real.
  • Performance of Characters: the characters actions, emotions and reactions to what happens in the scenes are important because they are supposed to convince the aundience that the movie is a real life event, if their acting is poor it will ruin literally the whole movie because their actions will effect the audiences emotion and views.
