Understand the purpose of Diegetic and non-diegetic sound.

Non diegetic sound- sound made specifically for the movie e.g. jaws, the source of the sound is never seen on the screen. These sounds include; narrators commentary, sound effects added for dramatic effect, mood music and soundtrack. 

       non-diegetic sound help to control the audiences emotions such as happiness, suspense, anxiety, fear etc. 

Diegetic- sound that comes from the movie world, the sound can be either on screen or off screen. The audience and actors can both hear the sound. e.g. kids laughing and people talking.
